Portion Control

Portion sizes have become huge! Over the last couple of decades the portion sizes of everything from pasta to hamburgers to bagels have doubled (sometimes tripled!) in size. And countless studies have shown that the bigger the portion size, the more we tend eat. We need to stop. The problem: We can’t control our portions if we don’t know what a proper portion size is. A Little Background on the Growth (pun intended) of Portion Sizes Researchers found that portion sizes have grown over the past 20 years, not only at restaurants, but in our homes as well. But why have portions gotten so big? And more importantly, why has our perception of what a “normal” portion size of a food changed so drastically? One word: Economics . Producing food is cheaper now than it was 20 years ago, with the advent of various technologies and more efficient farming

Tip Tuesday #2: Go Green (everybody’s doing it)

no The idea of being green is everywhere these days from the supermarket aisles (cleaning supplies, packaging, and food) to green buildings and especially to the concept of green living. The color green has come to symbolize wealth, growth, environmental rejuvenation and overall good health. We at Diet-to-Go suggest that you bring the green idea home to your dinner plate by eating all the green veggies that you can. Making Smarter Food Choices in a Time-Starved World

Featured Blog It’s a time-starved world we live in. When the demand for more work and other commitments take a toll on your health, it is essential to make smarter food choices. Working mothers, students, and hectic travelers eat fast food or other junk food due to perceived lack of time for cooking. Many of us also don’t think we have enough time to shop for quality raw foods. What too often happens is that we generally crave for energy-rich food that is high in calories and low in nutrients. Sure it can be quite tasty and easy to make, but such meals do not have enough nutritious elements to sustain a healthy lifestyle. So, what happens? Well, we tend to put on weight, stuff ourselves with even more unhealthy food, and invite weight-related diseases like heart disease and diabetes

Mobile Monday: Ab Workouts Free mobile app review

Featured Blog Ab Workouts Free Category: Healthcare & Fitness Cost: Free (Pro version $1.99)               Wouldn’t it be great if you could carry around your own personal fitness trainer in your pocket? Someone who would motivate and coach you through a workout wherever you are, whenever you wanted to workout? Well, that’s basically the idea behind the Ab Workouts Free app : it’s your own personal ab-focused fitness trainer in your pocket (or purse, or briefcase, or wherever you keep your device).  What we liked: The download is quick and easy and despite it being free you aren’t inundated with annoying pop-ups or other ads. There are four levels of workouts: Ab Toner (easiest); Core Warmer (medium); Get Ripped (hard) and Boot Camp (very hard). When you select a workout you are talked through the workout by a “trainer.” There are rest periods and even words of encouragement.  You can sign up to receive email support from your “trainer.” When you do, they boast that the trainer is really there for you and that you won’t receive automated emails, but rather, personalized emails written from the trainer to you. They promise to really read and answer your questions, give advice, etc.

Featured Blog The word “cleanse” is all over the news these days. It pops up just about everywhere because there’s always a celebrity cleanse du jour. There’s the juice cleanse, the master cleanse, the 5-day cleanse, the 7-day cleanse… and I have even seen the 14-day cleanse! There are spa cleanse programs and even “Cleanse Destinations.” The list is endless. Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. But what is a cleanse, you ask? Good question. A cleanse is a diet regimen ideally designed to remove toxins from the body, generally by way of a radical diet change.
